Concert Band in the fall is made up wind players from the marching band as well as band students who wish to take band the entire year. We learn playing, practicing, and performing fundamentals as well as put on a Holiday Concert towards the end of November. Just as all fine arts classes in Cabarrus County, there is a $10.00 class fee which purchases music and helps us maintain instruments. Students will also be required to purchase a Green Standards of Excellence Book. We will have these shipped to the school in order to save parents an extra trip to the music store. This book will be used in band for the rest of High School.

Music Appreciation - 3rd Period

Music Appreciation is a vast study of many types of music along with notation, history, and evolution. We split the 1 1/2 hour class into three segments. The first segment is basic sight-reading and rhythmic fundamentals. The second is based out of our text book, Music: It's Role and Importance in Our Lives. We examine different music from various time periods and cultures. The last section is listening practice. Here, we play popular music from a particular decade and ask students to remember the style, title, artist, and year it was recorded.

Percussion - 4th Period

Percussion Class is made up percussion players from the marching band as well as band students who wish to take band the entire year. Percussion Class is a comprehensive study of all percussion instruments. We will learn about one instrument each week; the playing areas, technique, when it's used. We will also learn music for percussion ensemble and perform in a Holiday Concert towards the end of November. Just as all fine arts classes in Cabarrus County, there is a $10.00 class fee which purchases music and helps us maintain instruments.

We learn playing, practicing, and performing fundamentals as well as put on a Pre-Festival Concert, Festival Concert, Home Concert, and Graduation Performance. We bring several professional clinicians in to work with our ensemble. Past clinicians include Dr. Larry Marx from UNC-C and Ed Keiffer from Pfieffer University. Just as all fine arts classes in Cabarrus County, there is a $10.00 class fee which purchases music and helps us maintain instruments.
